Meanwhile, the area hit by violence in Kandy District began to calm down on Friday, March 9, 2018. Looks of a number of shops reopened after the military took decisive action to overcome the mass attack by Sinhala Buddhist group that shook the area.

The unrest began on Monday, March 5, 2018, after a man from Sinhala was killed after being attacked by a Muslim man. Furthermore, the tension was heightened when a Muslim's body was found burned outside the building on Tuesday, March 6, 2018.

The action continued with attacks by the Sinhalese by burning mosques and businesses belonging to Muslims, homes, as well as vehicles in Kandy as well as other areas. The Sri Lank government implements a nationwide emergency by mobilizing troops and police to prevent riots from developing.
